Terms and Conditions
The agreement between you, rentwifi-now, and the person on the other side of your booking.
Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 31 July 2026
Draft — not yet reviewed by a solicitor. Placeholders in
[SQUARE BRACKETS]must be completed and the whole document reviewed before taking real bookings. The agency structure in Part A section 2 has direct VAT consequences (seedocs/legal/RESEARCH.md§2 and issue #22) — do not change it without advice.
These terms are between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (company number [COMPANY NUMBER], registered at [REGISTERED ADDRESS]), trading as rentwifi-now.
Part A applies to everyone. Part B applies if you rent a kit. Part C applies if you list one. Please read Part A and whichever of B or C applies to you.
Part A — General
1. What rentwifi-now is
rentwifi-now is a marketplace. Owners of Starlink kits ("hosts") list kits for hire, and people who want internet access for a period ("renters") book them. We provide the platform, take payment, hold the deposit, and pay hosts.
2. Our role: we are an agent, not the supplier
The rental contract is between the host and the renter, not with us. When you book, you enter into a contract of hire directly with the host. We act as the host's disclosed agent for the limited purposes of listing the kit, concluding that contract on the host's behalf, collecting payment, holding and returning the deposit, and paying the host.
This means:
- The host, not rentwifi-now, supplies the kit and the internet access.
- The host is responsible for the kit being as described, working, and available at the agreed time.
- We are responsible for the platform, for handling your money as described in these terms, and for the services we provide directly to you.
- We charge the host a commission for our services. That commission is shown separately at checkout.
We are not a party to the rental contract and do not own, inspect, or control the kits listed.
3. Your account
You must be 18 or over and provide accurate information. Keep your password secure; you are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, is used fraudulently, or creates a risk to other users.
4. Acceptable use of the connection
When you use a rented kit you must not use the connection to do anything unlawful, to infringe anyone's rights, to send bulk unsolicited messages, or to interfere with any network. The connection runs on the host's account, and unlawful use may be traced to them — so misuse is a serious breach of these terms and we may pass relevant information to the host or to the authorities.
5. Fees, tax, and payment
Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. Payment is taken at booking through our payment provider. Hosts are responsible for their own tax affairs, including declaring rental income and registering for VAT if they are required to.
6. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that: we are not liable for the acts or omissions of hosts or renters; we do not guarantee that any kit will achieve a particular speed or coverage, which depend on satellite service, weather, obstructions, and location; and our total liability to you in connection with any booking is limited to the total amount you paid for that booking, excluding the deposit.
If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect.
7. Changes, law, and complaints
We may change these terms; if a change materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect, and the terms that applied when you booked continue to govern that booking. These terms are governed by the law of [ENGLAND AND WALES / SCOTLAND — CONFIRM] and you may bring proceedings in its courts.
Complaints: [SUPPORT EMAIL]. We aim to respond within [N] working days.
Part B — If you rent a kit
8. Your booking
A booking is a contract of hire for the specific dates you select, beginning and ending on those dates. Those dates are the agreed period of performance, and the price covers that period.
Cancellation rights. Because this is a contract for the hire of goods for a specified period, the statutory 14-day cancellation right for distance contracts does not apply, in the same way it does not apply to car hire or accommodation booked for set dates. Our own cancellation policy is:
[CANCELLATION POLICY — e.g. free cancellation up to 48 hours before start; then X% retained]- If the host cancels, you receive a full refund including the deposit.
9. Collecting the kit
You collect the kit in person from the location shown after your booking is confirmed. At collection you and the host record a check-in: photographs of the kit's condition, and a connectivity check confirming the kit is online. This record protects both of you if there is a later dispute, so please complete it honestly and in full.
10. Looking after the kit
You must keep the kit safe, use it in line with the manufacturer's instructions, not modify or dismantle it, and not lend it to anyone else. You are responsible for loss or damage while the kit is with you, other than fair wear and tear.
11. Returning the kit
You return the kit by whichever method your booking specifies:
- Return to the collection point — bring it back to where you collected it, by the end of the rental period.
- Return by post — use the branded return box and prepaid label the host provides, and drop it at a post office by the end of the rental period. Keep your proof of postage; the kit remains your responsibility until it is received back.
Returning late may mean additional charges at the daily equivalent of the weekly rate, and may affect the next renter.
12. Your deposit
A refundable deposit of [DEPOSIT AMOUNT] is charged when you book. After the kit is returned and checked there is a short claim window, and we then refund the deposit to the card you paid with.
If the host makes a damage claim, we will tell you, consider both sides and the handover photographs, and decide what if anything is withheld. We will never withhold more than the deposit, and any amount withheld must reflect the actual loss — repair or replacement cost — rather than a penalty. We will explain any withholding in writing, and you can challenge it by replying to that decision.
Part C — If you list a kit
13. Listing
You may list a kit only if you own it outright and are entitled to hire it out. Your listing must be accurate about the kit, its condition, and where it is collected from. You are responsible for keeping your availability up to date, and for the kit being ready, working, and complete at the agreed time.
14. Appointing us as your agent
By listing, you appoint us as your disclosed agent to market the kit, conclude contracts of hire with renters on your behalf on these terms, take payment, hold and return deposits, and pay you. You authorise us to deduct our commission before paying you.
15. Commission and payouts
Our commission is [COMMISSION RATE]% of the rental amount, excluding the refundable deposit. We pay out the balance to your nominated bank account after the rental ends and the deposit position is settled. If you are VAT-registered, our commission invoice will show VAT; if you are not, you cannot recover it.
16. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for: your own tax, including declaring rental income; making sure your own service plan and any agreement with your internet provider permits you to hire the kit out; providing a working guest network for the renter; and completing the check-in and check-out records honestly.
17. Damage claims
If a kit is returned damaged or missing items, open a claim within [CLAIM WINDOW] of the return, with photographs and an explanation. Claims are limited to the deposit amount. We decide claims on the evidence from both sides, and our decision on whether to withhold from the deposit is final as between us; nothing stops you pursuing the renter directly for loss beyond the deposit.
18. Business hosts
If you list as a business — a shop, venue, or other company holding one or more kits — you confirm you are acting in the course of that business, that you hold any permissions or insurance your premises require, and that the person accepting these terms can bind the business.
